91 accord won't start?

My 91 honda accord cut off while driving know won't start what should it do its turning but won't start?

  • I check the wires it had oil down in the wire & on spark plug I cleaned it removed spark plug put it back still won't start!

  • Answer:

I have a '96 Accord which had the same problem, if its turning, and there's fuel in your tank and its not the plugs, it will be your fuel pump which has died. Electronic fuel pumps tend to wear off a lot quicker if you are driving around a lot with less than 1/3 of a tank of fuel. the best way to check if it is the fuel pump is to disconnect the fuel delivery line, turn the key and see if fuel comes out, if no fuel, its the pump.

Either you need a new distributor or new spark plugs or maybe new fuel pumper???

The three top suspects are timing belt, igniter and ignition switch. If the timing belt has been changed in the last 7 years it is not a concern, otherwise it is worth a check. The ignition switch is easy enough to check (and it usually becomes intermittent before it gets really bad) - as long as the warning lights come on when you put the key in the "run" position the switch is working. The igniter is not as easy to test but the symptom of suddenly quitting while you drive is just the way they fail. See the sources for this and the other possibilities. Note that igniter failure is a lot less common than coil failure unless you crank the engine when there is spark and a spark wire disconnected.

It seems to me you are out of fuel. If you have fuel or have added fuel then the next step is to check for proper electrical power to the engine. Sorry, but only a mechanic can determine the exact reason for this mechanical issue. There are fuel filters to be replaced or checked. There are electrical components to be checked as well. This is a 20 year old car and needs to looked over by a mechanic. Could be even rust from the fuel tank in the fuel lines. It all depends. Sorry, but a mechanic is the best way to go about solving this issue. Best of luck.
