Changing the battery and low rpm when starting the engine?

Have a '91 Honda Accord, engine cranks but won't turn over...?

  • Ok, so I have a '91 Honda Accord 2.2 L LX, and it used to run fine. Then about 2 weeks ago, I tried to start it and it got to 1000 RPM, but then the RPM dropped and the engine cut out. I started it again, gave it gas for about 10 seconds, and it kept running. It was fine afterwards so I thought nothing of it. But about 2 days ago I started it up, drove for about 5 seconds, and the engine just completely cut out. No sputtering...nada, it just cut out and died. I tried to restart it but now it just cranks without turning over. You can hear that it wants to start because it's not just clicking, so I know it's not the battery; besides, the lights and everything else electrical works perfectly. I've been trying the process of elimination and so far I've put more gas in the tank (it was close to E), changed the sparkplugs, and took the battery to Autozone to make sure it had a full charge. But I'm not making any progress. I just bought this car about a month ago, and I know the previous owner was always letting it go down to E before refilling, so I'm wondering if its the fuel filter or perhaps the pump. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and obviously I know I could simply take it to a mechanic but I would need to pay to have it towed and I'm trying to see if it's a simple fix before I start throwing money out there. I'm pretty sure it's not the alternator because the engine has been running fine and the battery is fully charged. I've had a few people mention the starter, but again, it was starting fine and it started the day it died, which makes me think its a problem with the fuel. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Most likely you have a bad Main Relay (also known as the fuel pump relay). It's located in the dash near the left side air vent. Sometimes you can get it to start by whacking the top of the dashboard above the left air vent with your left hand while turning the key to the Start position with your right hand.

it is caused by one of three things: fuel, air, or spark. The problem is that any one of those things could be the reason your engines not turning over properly. When my brothers civic wasnt turning over he thought it was because of the battery and he rechanged it and **** he wasted money on that so I suggest you try reving ur engine a couple of time and listen to the noise it makes if it sounds normal than its prolly cause of the spark. If not check the fuel and maybe try double checking your oil cause if it keeps doing this than ur engine might blow out dude than ur totally ****** anyways good luck Dude than maybe u should considor popping the hood and checking if ur spark is alright or maybe ur engine isnt getting enough air to actually start and than itll actually rev....I actually tried changing the fuel and maye u should check out ur muffler maybe its also another reason is it blocked or something cause maybe fuel got stuck in it and it clogged gd luck dude
