Is it ok to downshift when i race?

My 1993 GMC shifts way too early and will not downshift unless I do it manually. In 4wd it shifts ok 4 a time.

    The valve body in the trans regulates where the fluid goes, thus what clutches are engaged giving you the gear that the pressure dictates. The pressure is set by what you place the shifter in, all this is automatic when in D but manual when you change the gear to 3, 2, or 1. The valve body is not cheap, but could be done by someone with basic knowledge as this is not major trans work. PS. The valve body is the piece bolted to the trans just under the filter.

tranny is shifted by compuiter... can be affected by bad battery/bad bat connection...bad tune up [believe it] get to good mechanic
