What is the differance between a 1997 cadillac STS. and a 1997 cadillac SLS?

1997 Cadillac Northstar Engine Problems?

  • I currently have possession of a 1997 Cadillac STS. Lately, the engine has been overheating and I cannot seem to diagnose the problem. My father has taken it into the shop and the mechanic refused to work on the engine because it's a Northstar engine. Although, he had replaced the thermostat the problems still persist. I honestly don't know enough about cars at all to diagnose what could be wrong. I've also read on several web pages that I would probably have to disassemble the whole top half of the engine-which could cost up to $3000. Could anyone inform me of what another problem with the engine might be? And what would solve the problem? Please and thank you.
