Engine shaking when in neutral?

Daughter came home from school & said car 2000 Buick Park Ave was shaking when in park or stopped.Engine moun?

  • Its seems like a broken engine mount. She said it goes away at high speeds. It just started when crossing a certain intersection.

  • Answer:

These cars had recall on the fuel pressure regulator. When the diaphragm fails ,fuel is drawn in to the vacuum hose at the fuel pressure regulator and the engine stumbles or shakes, may backfire and then dies.In some cases the vacuum line splits in to from the backfire of the engine.A GM repair shop will replace the fuel pressure regulator for free if bad,but will not replace the vacuum hose for free.

it might just be that the timing is off. that wouldd be an easier fix than a broken engine mount

Hi, It could also be a fuel pump. An electric pump may not be getting proper voltage. Any pump, mechanical or electrical, could need replacing. Low fuel pressure at idle could cause the rough engine. And it could be an engine mount. A computer code reader would indicate the fuel fault. A Buick dealer may cost a little more (not much, if any) to find out what it is. It's best you get it fixed because it will cause wear and tear, and may be a safety issue. Cars break - but can be kept in good shape by making repairs which is still less costly than a new car payment. Best wishes.
