How long is a 1968 Buick LeSabre?

Is there a crumple zone on a 1988 Buick LeSabre?

  • I was recently in an accident where my 1988 Buick LeSabre was rear-ended by a 2006 Dodge Caravan. The van was pretty damaged but my LeSabre had an estimate of $324 in damage but we were hit so hard though. The guy in the van suffered a seizure which caused him to lose bodily control and to accelerate his vehicle while he was pulling up behind me and so collided with the back of my LeSabre which was sitting as rest in a Burger King drive-thru. We went flying forward but we all had our seat belts on. I know that his modern van probably had the crumple zone in the front to absorb some of the impact but what about my car? Did Buick make a crumple zone on my model car? I can't find any info on this or about the laws of physics that give info on the results of an object at rest that is hit by a moving object. Need info about objects at rest and how much force is felt as a result of a moving object's impact.

pretty much every car has them since way back in the 60's only way to get info is maybe thru auto maker

Bumpers absorb shock. Your trunk is a type of "crumple zone". The law you are looking for is the third of newtons laws... "To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." good luck on your test! =)
