  • pontiac 2002 grand am gt: when i uncapped the coolant, there was a small amount of brown smuut (possibly oil) around the rim. any suggestions?

    1st responder is right. Dex-cool is crap. Change it often. Alot of people tell you that you cant run the green antifreeze in it too but do not believe them. Just make sure if you switch to the green you have all of the dexcool out of your cooling system first. You definitely dont want to mix the two together.

Your vehicle uses what is called "dex-cool"which is supposed to be a 100,000 mile coolant.DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!change this coolant about every other year or 35,000 miles depending on how you drive.it is advisable to do a coolant flush this time but not every time you replace all of your coolant.

I would also have your lower intake checked.If they are leaking it would cause the mud in the system..if they find the intake gaskets leakin,i would spend the money and have the system changed over to the good ole green coolant.It's all I will run in my cars.
