What is best performance for my 04 Mustang GT?

Should i sell my 98 ls1 for a 99-04 mustang gt?

  • i been really thinking about this. i love my camaro but its a daily driver and my miles are at 143k im thinking about selling it for a maybe 80k mustang gt in the years i typed. i know stock for stock the mustang gt is slower. if i get the mustang im gonna go with.. Exhaust, cold air intake, exhaust, xpipe, and SCT Custom tune. so i have a few questions. what does a stock 99-04 GT dyno at? and what do they run in the 1/4 mile? and after i do them mods what do you think i will run in the 1/4? and will it be as fast as my ls1 after them mods. i do know the mustang is lighter. whoever can answer all that for me i will pick you as best answer. FYI It will be auto.

  • Answer:

Stock auto New Edges (99-04) put down around 230 hp to the rear wheels and around 265 ft/lb torque. With just a catback, mid-pipe, CAI, and tuner you'll gain maybe 25 hp max. Stock an auto will run the 1/4 in about 14.6. With those mods maybe 14.2. After those mods will it be as fast as the LS1? NO. 143k isn't really ALL that many miles on a LS1. I own 3 Camaro's (70, 73, 92) and 1 Stang, so I'm impartial and telling you like it is. One good thing about the GT is that you can run regular gas instead of premium which the LS1 requires. Gas is expected to hit about $4.50 this summer, so that'd be a big advantage. My 02 GT is a manual and I constantly get 20 mpg in 80% city driving.

Omg blasphemy! Heresy! Stick with the camaro. I don't know the HP on a mustang, but I would guess with those mods you would be in the mid 13's. Don't quote me on that though. And why buy an auto? Dude seriously, f-bodies for life.

you must have been drinking, to consider trading a camaro for a mustang. camaro>mustang, any day of the week.

It will be quicker off the start if it's a stick if you can drive it good it's not hard after some practice

if you're gonna trade for a mustang, then either trade it for a new one (2011+) or an old one (65-73) cause the 4th gen GT's (94-04) are really a bit of a joke seeing as how they don't even have 300HP (which the '11 V6 Mustang now has) Otherwise maybe save your money and put a new engine in your camaro cause as it goes, up to 02 camaros have the same gen/era mustangs beat easy, and it would just make more sense to save the money and get a new motor for what you've got now
