Installing LED lights?
-
Bought Ring Lyra LED lights for 2005 Ford Focus. Basic diagram says to connect white wire with 2 amp fuse to +ve terminal on car battery; black cable from both LED's to earth on car; and yellow cable from both lights (LED's) to feed wire from switch to sidelights. Tested LED's and they work, however, they remain powered on. Should this be happening, or should there be a switch run up to dash? Any other way to wire them up, or has Ring goofed here?

Could the instruction manual be a result of "badly informed and written English from honorable Chinese?" First of all, since you said earth rather than ground, I assume you're in the U.K. and not U.S. Some of those lights are illegal here. Partly, it's the color. I've seen some of them that are really distracting. What I would do is toss the instructions. I would install a switch from the fuse box or from a fuse block that goes inside the car. You can apply that by going inside the fender and through the opening leading to the door. Many cars have power windows and there'll be grommets that you can run a wire through. I would keep with the 2 amp fuse but buy an inline 2 amp fuse. You can do that or run a relay switch, I suppose, much like a horn relay. The latter runs a positive wire (assuming it's a negative ground car) with a lighter amp to another switch. This means if there's a short, it should be less serious. You can ground it at any point. But again, some places they sell them but it's illegal to use. I would check with the laws in your country to see if you can legally run those.

You have wired the yellow wire between the switch and sidelight and not on the feed TO the switch? If you want them to be on as daytime running lights without having your sidelights on you need to wire them to a feed that is live when the ignition is on.

So you have constant power from the battery, so the yellow wire is a trigger wire ?? If so, the LEDs should turn on only when the sidelights are on, UNLESS you hooked them to the power in side of the light switch instead of the power out side.
