What does a flashing red light mean on a 2008 Ford Escape vehicle?

I have 2008 Ford Escape vehicle and of late, a flashing red light has flashed on and off, and only when the motor is off and when the keys are out of the ignition. My vehicle has approximately 78000k's on the the motor. Can you tell me what do the flashing red light means??

It's probably the security system showing that it's armed.

It is the engine immobilisation system - if it has a car outline with a key in the middle, that would be the light! It is normal for that to flash, much like the Smart Lock light on a Australian ED Falcon
