Is the mass air flow sensor dead?

I just replaced the mass air flow sensor on my 2001 ford f-150...?

  • My question is: will the on board computer recognize the new mass air flow sensor and make adjustments immediately, or does it require several on/off cycles to recognize and make its adjustments before all idling issues get resolved. FYI: I had a local repair shop scan the service engine soon code with the scan tool and it reported the mass air flow sensor was the problem. That is why I replaced it.

  • Answer:

just drive it normally, the PCM will take care of everything else, usually 15 minutes is enough if the battery was disconnected, if not 100 miles is the relearn curve, or, just erase the adaptive strategy by disconnecting the negative cable for 5 minutes
