Best manual for the 1967 Mustang Fastback?

Is it possible to make my 1967 mustang a fastback?

  • I want to take my 1967 mustang and turn it into a Shelby. But the 1967 Shelbys were fastbacks. So is it possible to possibly cut and weld (followed by grinding and everything else) a fast back onto it?

  • Answer:

Kits for this conversion are available, but when considering the kit and the required labor, I have to seriously wonder if the means justify the end. Why not simply try and find a fast back to begin your Shelby clone with? Check out: www.coupetofastback.com/index.htm

Don't butcher your car into a parts donor for other Mustangs. If you really want a shelby, sell your car, and go and buy the real thing or make a clone. If you want something different using your existing coupe Mustang, do a clone of a California Special or a High Country Special.

oh, for cryin' out loud. are you kdding? go ahead and cut up your coupe. make it worth zilch. no matter what you cut and weld, the vin is going to show it as a coupe.

yes, but it's expensive and labor intensive, and is probably not worth the money, cause it's a coupe mustang and not a shelby/fasback to start w/. ...and anyone who ever checks the VIN# will know this If you want a fastback so bad, sell the one you've got and get one. You would probably get more money for it being stock than a clone/conversion anyway.

Anything is possible with the right amount of money. Chances are, you shouldn't try it.

With enough money you can make it a station wagon. So to answer your question, yes.

They make kits to convert a coupe to a fast back but they are expensive. You could also buy a junk fast back with a good roof, rear quarter panels, and decklid cut they off and put on your current car. That is still going to be a lot of work. You may want to consider just selling your car and buying a fast back because for teh price of the kit you could buy a fairly nice fast back.

It's possible, but unless you're damned good at it, it'll probably look like something someone cobbled together. I suspect it will be easier in the long run, if not cheaper, to go find a real Shelby.

I have a 1967 Mustang Coupe and my Restorer is pushing me to make mine a Fastback Shelby. I have already spent $40k to get the Coupe functional. I really do not want to spend another $40k to make it a fastback. It would be better to take that $40k and buy a fastback and then you will have enough left over to restore it (depending on how much you paid for the car). Bottom line is that they actually have kits to convert a Coupe to a Fastback. My restorer, DRS Fantomworks, is really pushing me to do it.
