What is the very best performance part for a 04 mustang gt that is worth every penny but wont break the bank?

Answer:
Well i'm assuming that "breaking the bank" is considered over $1000 ?? I have built a few mustangs in my day and currently have a 00' gt and had a 92' GT supercharged. If you can afford it the best thing is a supercharger but that will break the bank because they are about $3500-4600 for a new setup for a 4.6.It may cost more for extras like injectors Mass air sensor and stuff like that ,that may not come with the kit.First start with the basics.Get yourself a cold air kit. These things vary in prices.Anywhere from $30-$150.This add anywhere from 5-15hp.Next personally i would personally change out the exhaust with a GOOD free flowing system.A good cat-back system will be about $300 and add another 10-15hp.If you can afford it,get a good h-pipe with it too.About $150-300(without cats). This will add a few extra horses and make it sound better. Its up to you whether or not you want to do away with the convertors.if you think you can get away with it and not get picked up for "smog" problems then get the h-pipe without the cats.If you do get the one without the cats, you will need a (MIL eliminator kit) for the computer.About $6 on Ebay.Next i would modify your computer with a programmer or something but a good programmer can cost about $300 and add another 10-15hp.Now the BEST thing you can do for you mustang that i dont believe will break the bank is changing your rear end gears. It will not increase horsepower but it will give you quicker et's and better low end torque. You should get 4.10 gears for your stang.A lot of people may tell you to get 3.73 gears and this is NOT correct for this car.The old 5.0 mustangs ran great with 3.73 gears but since you have a 4.6 engine you will need 4.10's because the 4.6 is a higher rpm motor than the old 5.0's hence the lower gear needed for the 4.6.The gears you can get for about $100-150 new but installation will be around $300-$350 when done by a competent mechanic.A good short throw shifter will help you with quicker shifts, hence lowering your et's if your good.Shifter is about $175-250 but will not increase hp.After all this the only other things there are,a upper intake manifold and bigger throttle body when combined may add 15 hp and they cost around $400 for a good setup. The rest is all internal, such as cams etc etc.I know your wanting that NOS kit but personally i dont use them. They are cheap horsepower. You can get a kit for about $700 for a good "dry nitrous" system. This can add up to 100-125 hp depending on your jetting.Nitrous can be a little sketchy and if you dont know what your doing, you CAN fry your engine.I hope these tips helped!!

There is no cheap way of getting performance that you will feel.If you want more seat in the pants feel in the car get a set of 3.73 or 4.10 gears installed depending if you have a aauto or a std..You can get a set a gears from Summit for about $200 and 4 hrs install time to do it proprely

I have to vote for the supercharger on this one. Nitrous is a cheaper alternative but it is illegal for daily-driven, non-track cars in most states. Plus, you've got to refill the bottle. A supercarger, although intially more expensive will always give yo power on tap. There are many companies that make kits that should fit anyone's budget.

A high performance camshaft with the supporting mods (valvesprings, etc) will always be the best bang for your buck on any car, assuming the basics have been done, such as headers. A tune would also be up there.

well, i dont know a 04 inside and out as i dont own one, But top 2 upgrades i always make is cold air intake system (K&N recomended) and a computer reprogramer, both cost about anout 100-200 bux on the low low end, but they work their way up from there, if u dont mind puttin some wrench time in, id also say swap out the cams. if your lookin for boost, dont listen to the person who wrote a bottle of n2o, its just gonna give u a head ach, if u want boos super charge it, u could use a turbo.... but a supper charger will give u more in the preformance end. Also check out roush, iv got some parts of theirs on my ford, and though u do need to splurge a bit, its worth it!!!!!!! ya thats about all i got for you. Happy racing
