How do you open a fuel cap on the alfa romeo brera?

• My check fuel cap light is on and now my engine light is on as well. I made sure the cap was lined up correctly and put on tightly. I also shut the car off and on a few times now driving 10-15 miles each time. Today I went to auto zone and they ran a diagnostic check and it said check fuel cap. We went ahead and replaced it, turned the car back on and drove 26 more miles. Both lights are STILL on. Does it need to drive even further then what we've done already? Could it be something else besides the fuel cap that would turn the fuel cap light on? Thanks.

  First the emission related data (codes) must be erased from the PCM (powertrain control module) Because auto zone didn't do it (they are not allowed by law) to clear the codes (now they may let you use the code reader to do it yourself) !
