Where is the starter located on ford trucks?

Where is the starter located on a '98 ford windstar?

  • My Windstar has been giving me trouble starting. I have to pump the gas as I start it, and sometimes the batterie will die before the ignition catches. when I jump it it starts just fine. I think it is either the starter or the alternator. Any ideas or helpful hints?

  • Answer:

It's not likely the starter motor since it starts normally with a jump. If it cranks slowly before you connect jumper cables but normally when you connect them, your most likely problem is one or more corroded battery connections. That will prevent full power from reaching the starter and prevent the alternator from charging the battery properly. The next most likely culprit is the battery itself. It could be the alternator as well. Any garage can test the charging system in a couple of minutes. Many auto parts stores can test it as well, often at no charge. Wal-Mart will also test the charging system and battery for free.
