Why JBoss Fuse is a best ESB?

Why does the fuel pump fuse keep burning out?

  • i have a 98 mustang, and everytime i rev up the engine it burns out the fuel pump fuse, its the first slot to the left in the fuse box next to the batterie. i think it is the fuel pump fuse, im going by a diagram of a 99, the 98 diagram i keep looking at doesnt look like mine. what seems to be the problem, is the fuel pump giving out, or is there something wrong with the fuse box. its a 3.8 engine. see the thing is that if that fuse gives out, then for some reason it wont let it charge the batterie, and eventually the batterie dies out. it works fine and drives fine, the only thing is you cant pass the rpms above 2 or it will bust the fuse. i asked the question yesterday but i think lack of info, people where unable to help. thanx in advance

If the fuel pump fuse pops, the car won't run at all... since it runs, it's not the fuel pump fuse..... Since it's popping and causing the alternator not to charge, it may have something to do with the alternator windings or regulator shorting out at 2000 RPMS or above and causing the fuse to pop. BTW, researched it... The 1999 outside fuse box is different than a 1998.... How big is the fuse? is it a small fuse (called Minis) or is it a big fuse (they call them MAXIs in the trade?) the fuel pump on a 1999 from my source indicates a mini fuse.. the 1998 says it's in the middle of the fuse box and is a MAXI fuse Also watch out as Ford has a bad habit of changine fuse placement in the fuse box between years.. ran into that problem numerous times.. wise to get a known 1998 picture (only problem is the owners manual isn't available where I got the 1999 owners manual from)

fuel pump could be bad or might have a short. make sure the pump is made for pushing not pulling and that it is near the tank. take it to a shop or the dealer and have them fix it if this doesnt help any.

Get yourself a Haynes brand manual for your specific vehicle. They are very detailed. The book is well worth the 15 bucks. Fuel injection requires high pressure. the faster your engine turns the more fuel is required. It wouldn't be a bad idea to test your fuel pump. All you need is a multi meter. You can get one for less than 20 bucks at any auto part store. I'm assuming the vehicle is not modified. I have heard of people using any fuse that is on when the key is in the on position for an amplifier turn on lead. I think that is where I would start and the book will guide you from there. Usually when a fuse blows more than once there is a problem. They are protection devices. I hope this helps and good luck.

Canadian, if you don't like Fords then stay out of the Ford forum. We're supposed to help not make stupid remarks.

try the fuel pump relay in a box under the hood either mounted on firewall or wheelwell. they cost anywhere from 1000 dollars to 4000dollars.
