Where can I go to see if my 2005 ford explorer has a factory recall?
-
I have a 2005 ford explorer with 108,009 miles and it has a wine in the rear end. I have found out that a great deal of ford explorers have this problem and i bet that it is a factory defect but I'm afraid if I call a ford dealer they will just deny that it is ( wheater it is or not covered by a factory recall). There must be somewhere to go to have a list if all ford recalls, gmc recalls, etc.

Answer:
Just call the dealer they have to tell if their is a recall out on your car, the service people are usually more honest about that kind of stuff too.

You should be able to call a Ford dealers service department and they should be able to tell you all recalls and service bulletins for your explorer. I believe that ford has a service web site that you can check with your VIN number. this is the number in the lower drivers corner of the dash looking through the outside of the windshield. You can use this number to find out all recalls and bulletins.

Hi Stevenbjammin, Ford Motor Company and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) work together to proactively identify areas of concern through investigation of consumer and dealer feedback. During an investigation, Ford co-operates fully with NHTSA. Due to our rigorous safety standards and constant testing, not all issues result in recall or customer satisfaction programs. Ford Motor Company will repair those vehicles specifically mentioned in a recall announcement and programs are VIN specific. If a program is announced on a specific component, Ford will notify you by mail. Should you receive a letter, we suggest you contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. All recall and customer satisfaction program repairs must be completed by an authorized Ford dealer and will be performed at no charge. Repairs completed at a non-Ford dealer are not eligible for reimbursement unless the owner paid for the repair prior to the recall announcement. In order to receive a refund, the vehicle's owner will need to submit the original repair receipts to any Ford dealer in the U.S. for review. The government has a site with all their recalls for all makes and brands. I just Googledyour vehicle and I found one recall for lights and one recall for windows. Not all vehicles are affected by recalls. VIN numbers identify the ones affected. Sorry, did not find any information about the rear end. At over 100,000 miles you enter a new phase of maintenance and repair on any vehicle. Most modern vehicles, when properly maintained and operated can last, easily 20 years plus. The largest destructor of vehicles, besides crashes, is improper maintenance and repair and abuse as in racing, overloading, pulling too much weight, etc. I presume you vehicle is a 4x4 with all the required equipment. It may be normal wear and tear and there is nothing really wrong with it. But I would suggest, if you are not the only owner, to check of servicing requirements and if it was done on schedule. Have the car checked and serviced properly. Oil coolant, transmission oil, brake oil do need to be replaced on a schedule for maximum protection of their systems. Do not know about servicing the rear axle but it needs its lubricant in good condition and at proper levels. OK? I also advise drivers to please use turn signals for every lane change, turn, entry/exit to Interstates, etc. So many drivers do not use signals and it is a safety factor. Blinking lights attract the eye and provide information to others as to your intentions. Yes, even on a turning lane they are required by law. Best of luck.
