1995 Ford Taurus problems?

Would the 1995 Ford SHO Engine fit and work properly in a 1995 Ford Taurus GL?

  • I'm planning on redoing the engine in my taurus, and I was thinking of replacing it with the SHO engine. Would it fit and work properly in my GL , same year. Thanks

  • Answer:

    Pretty much.

Unlikely. You'll have to change the motor mounts, you'll need a new transmission, you'll definitely need the SHO ECU. You'll need beefier CV joints, an a new front diff. In short there were quite a few mechanical pieces that were unique to the SHO. It would be far easier and cheaper to simply purchase a SHO. And for the record Ford never put the 302 in any front wheel drive application. The 96-99 SHO did have a 3.4L Yamaha V8 though.

the main issue will be wiring issues as the sho is a performance engine and you need the ecm system for it as well. your hood should change over no problem at all from your other question. you know I believe some taurus models were built with the 5.0 liter motor V8 and if it were me and I were going to go the trouble I think I'd persue that set up using an ecm from a mustang gt and a 5.0 gt motor sweeeeeeet!
