How to identify the ignition wire on a ford focus mk2?

• I am installing DRLs (Daylight Running LEDs) on my 2005 focus lx. The original plan was to connect them to either straight to the ignition fuse or to the sidelights. After having a look and deciding that it was quite difficult to get the wires into the fuse box, i tested the leds on the sidelights. As it turns out the sidelights are only running on about 3.5V, and the leds must have 12V to run with full brightness. So now im planning on using a wire from the battery and from the ignition into a relay, then into the leds. I was told by a mechanic that these is an ignition wire leading out of the fuse box, but without a wiring diagram we cannot tell which wire is the correct one. Can anyone help with identifying this ignition wire? Cheers

  It may be the red wire from the ignition switch. If not there are only two wires, so it will be the other one. If you can test for a current when switched both on and off this will confirm the right wire. I am doing the same, i.e. installing LED's on my 2005 Focus. Let me know how you get on. There is not much helpful information online for this problem. Plus, I read somewhere there is a module to prevent what you are trying to do, however, to add to the confusion, there is a fuse in the passenger footwell compartment for LED's.
