What is good asking price for 93 mustang?

1999-2004 mustang v6 or gt? Need mustang guys or gals?

  • Hey Okay I have been looking for a mustang gt convertible in the 99-2004 body style. I prefer a 2000, just b/c of price and their the same style. I just passed up on this one: http://cleveland.craigslist.org/ctd/1983600290.html It sold for like 2500.00, just needed a better front fender. However, I have seen mustangs go cheap like this, but rarely. Anyway: I can get a v6 for about 2500. Yes, it a v6. It has black leather interior, silver on outside, and nice wheels. However, i am not a fan of getting a v6 and try to make it sound like a GT. In fact, I wanted to add flows on a GT to make it louder. So, can that be accomplished with a v6 for say $500.00? I was thinking true dual, flows, and what not. Please feel free to comment. I do however, want a gt. The prices for them are higher than in the summer!? lol. I remember in the summer for my year, they were going for 5k asking price. Now ppl want 6-7k. I am in college, so I do want a nice car....but IDK. Anyway, feel free to comment on the v6 or the pricing on the gt. Also, did I miss a deal on that GT that sold for $2500.00, just needed some work. Anyway, what would ya do, thx. Also, girls feel free to reply and comment and mustang guys.

  • Answer:

Contrary to what the other guy said, there are plenty of stick shift V6 Mustangs running around. And Ford has had several excellent V6's; The ultra-reliable 3.0L Vulcan V6, the Duratec 3.0L, and the Cyclone 3.5L are all good examples. If you get a V6 don't put flowmasters on it, it'll sound like garbage. The 3.8L was never known for having a pleasing exhaust note. If anything it sounds like farm tractor when you open up the exhaust. I think you should keep an eye out for a good deal on the GT.

I say go for the GT. The 6 is better on gas, but if you stick exhaust on it, it'll sound like a pissed off bee in a jar, and you'll be upset you wasted the money. OR, you could save the money, drive whatever you have now and buy a NEW GT when you get out of college. What I would do. Not waste the money on a perceived "good deal" on the 6 when it'll just piss me off that I bought it and save for what I want. You said it yourself, "I do however, want a gt." Don't settle.

you're going to look like an idiot with a v6 mustang thats riced to look like a GT, just search harder for a GT. not to mention that i don't think that v6 mustangs come in manual transmission, and you will need a manual transmission for the car, which is another reason to get a GT. not to mention fords v6 engine was horrible until the 2011 year.

I would have bought the $2500 car and spent the $500 on the fender and left the exhaust alone. A louder Musang 6 is not going to sound like a V8. but a quieter one might.

im going to sound like captain obvoius here: just save up and buy the gt. forget the v6 as you will drive it and keep kicking yourself saying, why didnt i buy the gt when i had the chance?

the v6 does NOT have rear drums. youre thinking of the fox body.

First, you cannot make a V6 sound like a V8. It's physically impossible. The sound a V8 makes is due to the angles that the cylinders are to each other and how many degrees are between each exhaust pulse. You can't change a V6 to have the same distance between exhaust pulses with 2 fewer pulses per 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation. Any way you slice it, it's not worth it to get the V6. The difference between the two cars is far more than the engine. The V6 has a different engine, transmission, rear axle, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, exhaust, rear bumper, hood, instrument cluster, even seats and stereo can be different. V6 has drum rear brakes and small front brakes, GT has 4 wheel disc. V6 has 16" wheels, GT has 17. V6 has a 7.5" rear axle, GT has the stout 8.8. V6 uses the weak T-5 manual transmission (same bell pattern as the old 5.0), the GT uses, depending on the year, either a T-45, TR-3550, or TR-3650. GT has a stiffer suspension to handle better. If it were me, and if you were going to modify the car, I'd get a 1999 GT. It's going to be the oldest, so it will be cheapest. But it will have the same engine as the 2000-2004. I personally am not a huge fan of that body style, so I'd choose an older year, but that's personal preference (I like the 94-98 body style much better, hence why I have a 98 Cobra). In fact, you could probably find a 1996 or so Cobra for the price of a 2000-2002 GT, and have a faster car to start with, that has the best handling and most power of any solid axle mustang made up until 2005.
