How do I reprogram a remote start for a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
-
I have a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac that not to long aga, I had a Remote Start/Alarm installed on it. I love the fact that I don't have to freeze my *** off anymore. The problem is when I had to install something else for the vehicle. I was required to disconnect the battery and then connect it when I was all done. The alarm still worked like it's suppose to. The remote start wouldn't though. I called Cartoys where I had it installed. They said I had to bring it in for them to relearn the chipped key in the module. This installation that Cartoys did required a module because of Ford having chipped keys now. I think it is called a bypass module. It only took the tech a few minutes and bam it was done. What happens if I'm out of town not near a Cartoys? I would like to know how to do this and not bother them for something petty. Does anyone out there know how to do this? It can't be all that hard.

Answer:
If its anything like Bulldog, there is a key hidden under the dash in a receiver, electrically it sees the chip in the key. Then sends the chip signal to a loop of wiring around the key area on the steering colum. Hidden under the covers. What ever picks up the chip in the key also picks up this signal and completes the cycle. I have a complete set up for my small Ford truck. It never will be installed. Unless it is a factory set up, or a non chipped vehicle. I have been told by several people do not use these systems in a Ford. They will work well for a few years and then you will have problems. From my friends that turn wrenches for a living. They chase these problems all the time. And replace main processors in vehicles because of remote starters. We did put one in a GM car, non chipped key. It performed well for the 9 years we owned it. The remote went out at the end. $80 to replace it. We have a car that came from the factory with remote start. My better half wouldn't be without it. I still freeze in the truck. Some how your module has to be resettable. I do believe it's by flash though. The same way new vehicle computers are programed. Hope this helps.
