What happened to my heater? Common problems with the climate control?

  • I have a 2002 V6 Ford Mustang. The heat ran great today when I started it this morning. I drove it to work and it was fine. Then, my wife showed up at my work at quitting time as a surprise and turned on my car for me. I came out of work when I'd gotten out, and she told me, "Bad news." I said...what...and she told me that I have no heat. So my question to you all is what are common problems with the climate control? The A/C does not operate as well, in fact nothing as far as the dials do ANYTHING. This all happened in one DAY....Any help would be GREAT!!

    Check fuse #24 in the fuse box under the dash, this is for the blower motor, if the fuse is not blown, it may be a defective blower motor, or problem in the blower control circuit. A proper diagnosis may be needed if the fuse is not the case.

If your heat and a/c are both not working, like the others said check the fuse situation. Chances are though if it is not the fuse you are looking at and HVAC problem. I would take it to a dealer and have them run a diagnotic on it, before you start replacing items. It can get very expensive. You could be looking at a clutch, a heatercore, an accumulator, new hoses, maybe a blower motor. If one of these parts is broken the others will not function properly.

Have you checked the heater core? I don't know where it is located on your car because it's a V-6 but on my V-8 ford mustang it is located on the left top side of the motor. My heater core went out not long ago too but if that's the problem then your floorboard would be wet. IDK why but it happens. It could be many other things too though.

It might be a fuse you might want to check your fuse box first, either in the car or under the hood. I think there is a fuse for HVAC controls. it should be marked which is which in your owner manual. It doesn't sound like you have a thermostat problem if your A/C isn't working at all either. But that's where I would check first.
