What is the Most popular Ford motor?

What 8 cly. Motor. Will fit a 1988 ford bronco II that has a 6 cly. Motor that losses all its power.?

  • Need to find out what 8 cly ford motor. That will fit into a bronco II. That haves a 6 cly. 2.9 motor in it. That runns good when motor is cold. But when the 2.9 gets hot it losses all its power. I don't no anything about ford motor's. So need to no about a 8 cly that will fit a Bronco II taht will hook up to the 5 speed tran.

    Does it get hard to start when hot? Could be a thermostat sticking shut then. You might just have a vacuum leak somewhere on the engine. The engine swap will be a hassle seeing that the 2.9 is probably fuel injected and has a computer. If you go a bigger engine you will need the wiring harness, computer, any other electrical parts, and maybe even the radiator if it is bigger. I would just have that engine looked at first just could be something simple.

the biggest stock motor iv seen in a bronco II stick is a 3.8L, and that looked pretty crammed. I have a 95 mustang w/ a fi 3.8, and with a few mods i got it to make 300 hp

When mine did that, the ignition module on the distributor was going bad. A 4.0 v6 will probably bolt in, but it will take some wiring and a different computer to make it run.

Just my Opinion.

Might have busted fuel pressure regulator, 2.9L bell housing is the same as 2.8L, or 4.0L, think they come from germany

A 4.0L v6 from a Ranger or Exploder will fit the 2.9L trans. rangerpowersports.com Good luck.
