How do you bypass the stock amp in a 1996 ford explorer?

  • I have a 1996 Ford Explorer. The compressor has seized up and keeps breaking the belt that apparently drives everything in the truck. I really don't understand this because your air conditioner should not determine whether your truck runs or not. Can someone explain this or is there a way to bypass the compressor?

    the AC clutch might have seized up too.. unplug the wires from the compressor and see if that helps..

The belt that drives the A/C Compressor for most vehicles also runes other components such as the Water Pump, Alternator, and other things that are quite important in the normal function of your vehicle. There may be a couple of things wrong with it that i can tell you without actually getting a good look at the vehicle. The most common problem is that the belt may be just too tight. You can loosen it via the Belt Tension which controls how tight the belt is. Another problem that may be related to the A/C Compressor is that the pulley may be going bad and locking up, As a result, the belt slides and drags across the pulley resulting in wearing down the belt enough for it to snap.
