Why does my 93 Ford Escort idle rough?

93 Ford Escort LX 1.9L problem.?

  • I have a 93 Ford Escort LX 1.9 L.Automatic. Here's the deal. It takes a long time to accelerate and also takes a while to kick into each gear. By the time it does get into gear its time to change gears again and it has to work hard to get into gear again. And so it continue's. The car runs beautifully besides that. Everything is in tact. Those are my only issues so the question is what exactly is the problem. I know its the tranny but what part of it causes slow acceleration and bad shift changes? Thanks. Ps...If you know the ball park range on how much this would cost include that also. Thanks!

  • Answer:

The bands and clutches are bad internally causing the transmission to slip and rev up taking forever to shift and to gain speed. It is well pass time to get it rebuilt or replaced. depending on which way you go 500-1500 ballpark. Good Luck

take it to a jiffy lube or a quick change oil and have them do a complete transmission oil change with filter . it might be around $70 but it might be worth it . or another thing might be if you have a aamaco transmission shop where you are take it there and they usually give you a free estimate on whats wrong and how much it would cost . but since it is a 1993 it has high milage and never had a transmission filter and fluid change .
