2005 V6 Mustang Mods?

  • whats up ! this winter i plan on adding a few upgrades to my mustang. its a 2005 v6 automatic. i already have a complete dual exhaust system without any muffler. cut the dual mufflers off and running mangaflow straight pipes. SOUNDS AWESOME FOR A 6 ! this is what i have in mind. cold air intake throttle body headers msd ignition hydrolic roller cams suggestions on what i exactly i should get ? any guess on my gains here ? any other suggestions ? at this point being a college student it would be hard to buy any kind of procharger/turbo. working with what i have

  • Answer:

you cannot buy hydraulic Roller cams for your car... it already has them ,and their aren't any aftermarket suppliers for them. my friend has an 05 v-6 manual, and with a take off mustang gt exhaust, cold air intake, 4.10 gears, and a diablosport plug in tuner, he ran a 14.1 at 100. if you are going to get headers, go long tube! otherwise it is not worth it. however, if you go long tube, you will need to remove your catalytic converters, and you wont pass inspection, and you will need to disable the rear O2 sensors... and the throttle body is useless to upgrade on a naturally aspirated car... its a $300+ part for MAYBE 2-5 hp... get the CAI, 4.10's, and a tune (which can correct your speedo after the gear change!) and you will be happy. also, msd does not make an ignition upgrade for your car. there is a coil upgrade by "screamin demon" for your car...

Get a handheld tuner. I have a 2005 V6 mustang and have been upgrading it too. don't get a throttle body spacer they're a waste of money and don't do ****. The tuner I got came with a Roush 91 octane tune. It helped, but your mileage will suffer. Underdrive pulleys will help too. with the underdrive pulley though your ac wont stay cold when idling so use your tuner to increase your idle rpm. and while your at it, use it to take off that pesky governer. you might want to add high performance plugs and wires to your list too. I haven't done it but I've been told a aluminum drive shaft will help. Hope this helps.

I would invest in a tuner/intake combo followed by a set of 4:10 gears. the TB is kind of worthless in naturally aspirated cars. so are shorty headers. if your going to get headers make sure that they are long tube headers;mind you that they are for off road use only and you won't pass inspection with them.. I don't see the need for msd ignition either because your stock ignition is putting out plenty of power. also another good mod for your auto is a shift kit/stall converter. good luck.

Your first mistake was buying a Mustang with a V6. I don't even know why these cars are offered in a V6! But since you already have one.... I would definately go with the cold air intake. Also see if you can find an Airaid Poweraid TBS Throttle Body Spacer. It swirls the incoming air and gives you a little more ponies. It'll also help out with the cold air intake.
