All of these answers are correct. You'll need a good junk of cash to build a car like that. As for purchasing an unrestored Fastback, they can be had for pretty cheap depending one what condition they are in. Ive seen some that where ok and needed some floor pans for $4500 and i just saw a '66 mustang in Mustang and Ford Trader that's $9000 OBO. Its a V8 with A/T, PS and its all original. Says its been in storage for 30 years. That's the one you want. More then likely its been stored inside out of the weather so it makes for a better project. I have one of these and its exactly how i found mine. YOU can also bet that with being stored that long, the mileage is gonna be pretty low resulting in an end result of a higher value. And with a car like that, you can probably get it up and driving in no time flat. When i found mine ( stored for 20+ years) it didn't run. All it needed was a carb rebuilt and the top end seals replaced, the tranny was leaking and it needed new shocks. The thing has is still running strong and only has 40,000 miles on it. What you want can be done, its just gonna cost money. If you are willing to do it yourself, you can do it for pretty cheap. Good luck, those are great body style!

Start saving your money. An un restored mustang won't cost you 9 grand. You should be able to buy one for $5000.

sry to bust ur bubble but everyone wants a fastback mustang and an unrestored mustang notch back you can easily grab for under 9 but i would say around 10-15 grand for a fastback.....they're much more popular and everybody wants one. go to 7-11 and buy old car trader and look at the prices in there....thats what i did when i was your age. now im 19 and my dad and i are restoring a 68 mercury cougar(ive always wanted one) ALSO YOU NEED TO SAVE MORE THAN JUST THE COST OF THE CAR B/C IF UNRESTORED THE ENGINE IS PROB GONNA NEED WORK IF NOT REPLACING. ALONG WITH TRANS REAR END N SUSPENSION

Start looking for it..and saving your money....and when you find it..buy it..don't agonize over it... The secret to finding it, is keep your eyes open...In the past week, I have seen two restorable 66 coupes parked behind commercial buildings, among other cars. Within the last 6 months I have seen at least one restorable fastback along I-44 between St Louis, and Springfield....cars are out there. Some other things you need to think about... A place to work..an empty 2 car garage is about right.. Tools......a 40" tool box full of tools from Sears will cost about 2000.00 a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, and 4 wheel car trailer. that you can buy, or borrow.. You should also consider buying 2 cars, the one you are restoring, and a parts car.....

or better yet just save up for an already restored mustang. just bear in mind the fastbacks are worth more now than they used to be. the 6cyl hard tops dont fetch as much as the v8s but you can always upgrade them later. there are places overseas that make new fastback shells but they are not cheap.

im the same but i live in the uk so it harder for me as

Look outside the US. While harder to find classic cars in Canada, unrestored they tend to be a bit cheaper because the market to restore them isn't as big...the winter's too long...

open an account-passbook only-just for this, and put every penny in you can manage! and start collecting information, join a car club, and so on.
