Do you own a Ford Expedition, and has this happened to you?
-
I recently discovered a website that had stories and complaints from people who owned Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators that would catch fire in their driveways and in garages. Some of them said their entire homes were burned to the ground because of these vehicles, and Ford would not help them. This really concerns me, as I have a 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer edition. Has anyone here had this problem or know someone who has had this happen to them.

Answer:
There is a recall for this problem, I have a 2000 Expedition and found the recall notice on the web. The problem is a 15 minute fix at your dealer, it has to do with your cruise control and basically the dealer just puts a smaller fuse in the cruise control so it will blow out quicker if you have the problem your talking about.

My Mother owns a 2000 Ford Expedition & she got a recall card for the cruise control (this is what catches fire). I have a 2001 Ford F150 and got the same notice. I would check with your local Ford dealer.

The fires were blaimed on the cruise deactivation switches possibly shorting out. You should have got a letter from Ford to have the recall done. the recall is some sort of Jumper they put inline to open if the switch goes bad... A lot of them don't go bad however. The recall number from what I've seen is 05s28

I worked for Ford for 8 years and have never heard of such a thing.

If ford wouldn't help them it may not be the cruise control recall. The air suspension system has been a problem in the pass where the pump would burn out because the leveler was bad and the pump kept having to run and would over heat. If nothing has happen yet I wouldn't worry about it and most Expeditions don't have the air ride.

Visit your local Ford dealer and have them take a look at your truck. There was a recall on an underhood cruise-control power switch. They can tell you if your vehicle is affected by the recall; if it is affected, they can fix it at no charge.

There are several hundred thousand Expeditions out there that arent catching on fire, I wouldnt worry about it. There would be a huge recall if it were true. Ford wouldnt want the lawsuits if this was a problem.
