Why wont my second router work?

• Ok so I have Wind stream as my internet providers and i have their router right next to my computer. Well the signal for WiFi is horrible. I thought yesterday, "If i hook up another wireless router to the wind stream router and make it closer to my room i would get better signal. Well every time i hook up the closer router (the non wind stream one) my internet on my computer wont work. I have no idea why. But if i unplug it my WiFi with the together router wont load anything because there isn't any internet going to it. What should i do to make my internet and second router both work.
