My 1996 Dodge Intrepid 3.3L won't start?

1996 Dodge Ram 3.9 won't start?

  • My mother has a 1996 Dodge Ram with a 3.9 V6. It will turn over and over, but will not start. No check engine light on. She is 200 miles away and I can't help her. Any suggestions on where to start? She does have minor mechanical skills.

  • Answer:

it sounds like a fuel issue. check the fuel filter to see if its stopped up, or turn the key to ignition and listen or get someone to listen for the fuel pump to come on it should be a deep hum.

Just Basics. 1. Have a fully charged battery. 2.Does she have fuel and oil and coolant. 3. Turn on the key and listen for a hummmm noise which will stop in a few seconds? Which means the fuel pump is working. What is the climate where she lives? If there is water in the filter, it will freeze in cold winter conditions. If she can remove one spark plug from the engine..and ground it while someone turns the engine over, it will tell you if you have spark. But I would do that last as you will have to remove the spark plug wire before you remove the plug. Also a way to check and see if it is your fuel system..is to spay a small amount of Starting fluid into the air cleaner opening. Doesn't take much. If the engine try,s to start..then you have a fuel system problem! Of course another simple check is to look at your fuses in the fuse box. Good Luck.
