Why does my car audio cuts out?

98 Dodge Intrepid: When starting the car if the steering wheel isnt straight the car cuts off. Why???

  • Hello, My 98 Dodge Intrepid has a habit of cutting off after I start it if the steering wheel isnt straight. So I have to rush and straighten the wheel out after the wheel unlocks when I first start it or it will keep cutting off until I do. Can anyone provide an explanation as to why this happens and how can this problem be fixed. Thanks to all.

    their would be one possibility and that would be that you would have a short in a wire in the column but if that were the case it should die while your driving it,the other possibility is that the engine is running in a bind and its not idling high enough,any strain on the engine at all would kill it,really on that one you have to start checking the wiring and other things on it,if it had a wiring problem though it should die on you at times even after its warmed up,if it were me id have the computer scanned ,it could have a sensor causing this too happen also,good luck on finding it,

Sounds like an electrical short. If you know what you're doing open up the steering column and look for burnt wires. If not take it to the shop. Electrical isn't something to just jump into. (You may also never get the column back together.)

its a short or a bad connection. thats pretty retarded. that would make me pretty mad... i had an 01 stratus and ya..... lets just say the key word is HAD

Most likely you have a short in your ignition switch. The electrical part behind the key and tumbler.
