Supercharger turbo question Honda.

Supercharger or Turbo? That is the question? For Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L Gas.?

  • I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L Gas and was wondering if it is better to use a supercharger or a turbo. Has anyone used one or the other? Can a turbo even be used? Any links or info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

NEITHER!!! Without changes to your engines internal parts, you will just be another wannabe who bolted a supercharger or turbo kit onto his bone stock engine. Don't get me wrong, you could get a supercharger kit and get a little power, but you won't be impressed after about the third time you drive it. Either: a) Get the engine built for a turbo setup (proper compression, cam duration and overlap, etc) b) Get it built for a supercharger c) Do neither, go dump a couple grand on a supercharger to get your 30 HP and think its cool for a little while d) Go buy a car that's actually fast

if i was going to try to do anything to it i would super charge it,there are kits you can buy to do that with, one thing you don't want to do is turbo charge it,its too hard on the engine, there's a lot of 5.9,s been super charged, we was at the car show last year and seen some nice 5.9,s with after market super chargers on them, turbo,s use hot exhaust to gain power with super charging one uses cool forced air and you get better results, with less engine wear, and a lot better top end speed,i have owned a 360 super charged engine,it was a fun car to drive,we had it in an old dodge aspen r/t,good luck.

dodge man

the 5.9 never had that great of a reputation without any bolt ons added to it. adding them will wear it out... yes, you could do either. if i were to do one on a gas motor, i'd get the supercharger. eaton makes a couple that would fit that truck, so does mangusson http://www.magnusonproducts.com/faq.htm check out the magnuson site, it'll tell you about compression limits for running a blower on your motor. they aren't what they used to be.

hello

supercharger is cheaper and more responsive and alot easier to install but in the long run a turbo charger will produce slightly better number on a dyno but for more bang for your buck go supercharger and nitrous
