Why is my PC monitor so dark?

Why won't my monitor connect to my PC?

  • I'm in the process of moving houses and today I decided I'd move my computer. I unhooked it all and packed it neatly, I even sat my monitor and PC in the car seat and buckled them up whilst getting weird looks from my mother. Anyway, I unpacked it all and set it up on my desk. But when I tried turning my computer on, I realised that my monitor was not picking up any type of signal from my PC. I've never had any problems with my monitor and I was wondering why it's giving me grief now. I'm not stupid, it is plugged in properly and I do know what I'm talking about so please don't give me any stupid answers like "Have you plugged it in?" I have a Viewsonic VLED221wm monitor which I connect to my PC via the ANALOG input and I've never had any trouble with this. Also, I'm using Windows XP. It's starting to bother me as I never had any dramas with it connecting to my PC when I first purchased it. I've also never had any problems with it connecting to other devices like laptops or anything. I really don't know what's wrong and I've spent the last 2 hours sitting here fiddling with cords and switching things off and on again. Serious answers only please. Thanks, Ely :)

  • Answer:

There can be a few reasons. You could have a bent pin in your cable. Or the connectors on the monitor or PC. From personal experience, I have gone through the exact same thing while moving to college. the problem ended up being the PC itself. One of the RAM sticks went bad between travel (no idea why). The RAM can very possibly be the problem too. If you have a video card, there could be something wrong with that as well. It could be loose from the motherboard or could have just gone bad. If you are positive that the cords are right (and not damaged), then it is more likely the PC itself.
