What do i need to change my rear struts?

2005 Dodge FWD Caravan. If I change struts, do I need to align?

  • I want to put on new rubber next. Don't want to find out I should have aligned the front end after the fact. I have heard the struts can't effect alignment and I heard they can. Help?

  • Answer:

anytime you have to change the struts on a vehicle you have to have the vehicle alignment re-aligned,it will throw it off, there's no exceptions to this, even on a car that just has shocks sometimes it will throw the alignment out a little because it will raise the car back to its normal position and that throws off the alignment,id at least have it checked, you don't have nothing to loose by doing that but time,if its not off they wont charge for an alignment, good luck.

of course, changing the struts will definately change camber and caster which will in effect change toe. alignment needs to be performed right away.

Yes, mark a line on the bolt and the strut (where they bolt to the top of the spindle),this will help you get close to the setting you had, but still need to align it.

all replacement struts that i have put on these are slotted at the clevis for adjustment. there is now way for you to get it right without aligning it.
