Where is the CAMSHAFT SENSOR located on a 96 Grand Am?

Does my 96 Caravan have a crankshaft position sensor?

  • I have a 96 Dodge Caravan with the 3.0L v6 engine. Autozone.com lists an independent crankshaft sensor for it. Other people say it is integrated with the distributor. The autozone guide says that it is the CAMshaft sensor integrated. So, what is the actual situation with this? And if it is independent, where is it located?

  • Answer:

The camshaft position sensor is in the distributor. The crank shaft position sensor is in the bell housing of the transmission, at the flywheel.

Yes they do, I'm not sure where it is, but know from physics that it works on the Hall effect principle. Just a sec, I'll go find it. Okay, it's in the transaxle housing above the distance sensor, opposite side of serpentine and flywheel. Cams and distributor go together, not cranks.

96 3.0 (mitsubishi motor) does have a crank sensor.. the camshaft sensor is the distributor assembly..
