What is wrong with my gas gauge going up and down?

2001 Dodge Caravan Sport gas gauge going crazy?

  • I have a 2001 dodge caravan sport and just today when I filled up the tank, all of a sudden it dropped to empty and then went back up. It did this a couple of times. It would go down to empty and the light would come on and then come back up in a minute or less. what could be causing this? HELP!!!

  • Answer:

    when they do that its the sending unit the gage wont cause the low fuel light to come on ,it registers from the signal it gets from the sending unit in the tank,so the sending unit will have to be changed on it,you may loose the gas gage all the way if it goes completely out,good luck.

it can only be the gage is bad or the float in the tank I would try the gage first. hope this helps, good luck !
