Has anyone had problems with their Dodge Intrepid?

  • I got a 1996 Intrepid a few months ago and have had nothing but problems with it. I'm experiencing a lot of problems with the front end or just steering in general and I looked it up online and saw that these cars are notorious for having problems with the front end. Has anyone else had problems? And if so, what happened?

    Yup, these cars have A LOT of problems. Sell it ASAP before you get deep into problems and you end up spending 5k within a few months. So sell it while it has no signs of problems. Also next time you buy a car, spend a $100 at a mechanic to check out the problems. $100 is nothing compared to the repairs on any car (that's usually just 1 hour of labor), not to mention petrol and parking.

The major problem you have is getting a good mechanic. The front end problem is most likely the steering rack bushings going bad, the inner tie rod bushings going bad, and possibly struts. Always test drive a car before you buy it.

One of my friends had issues with that generation of Intrepid -- mostly inner and outer tie rod ends. Nothing to do but just keep putting tie rods in and alignments. Overall the car was pretty reliable and he had 150k miles on it.

i HAVE A 97 Intrepid & OVER ALL I HAS SERVED ME QUITE WELL ONLY MAJOR REPAIR WAS NEW FRAME BUSHINGS AT 140000miles ONLY THING I would avoid like the plague is any MOPAR WITH THE 2.7 motor IM Running the 3.3 & IT has always ran great & other than the ferame bushings I have not done anything other than the usual routine maintenance to it

Not to pee in your cornflakes, but these cars have rather notorious reputations for poor reliability and frequent (and expensive) repairs.
