How do you find vacuum leak on a 91 pontiac grand am?

Where would I find a map sensor for a possible vacuum leak on a 1993 Dodge Dakota?

  • Having some shifting problems on my truck, with 156,000 miles and transmission fluid is good and filled up, and need to find this critter and possibily replace. Can someone explain where its at, what it looks like, maybe how many vacuum hoses come off it, and where they go, etc. Thanks.

  • Answer:

It will be a rectangular black sensor on a bracket that will be mounted to the firewall if I remember right. If not on the firewall, then check the right (passeger side) inner fender. On the firewall, it should be near the center on the passenger side of the firewall. It will have an electrical plug that goes into it with 3 wires, and should also have 1 vacuum hose running to it that goes to the throttle body or intake manifold fitting. It should be the only sensor that has an electrical plug and vacuum hose hooked to it on the firewall. Check the hoses for crackes if it's a vacuum leak, while the sensors do crack or break causing a vacuum leak, it can also be cracked or broken vacuum lines causing the leak.
