Can i put a Cummins I-6 diesel in my 2006 ram 1500?

Not easily. It would cost far less money to simply buy a diesel truck. Even if you had the room in the engine compartment, consider this. Motors are not plug and play. You don't simply unplug the old motor and plug in a new one. Seeing you had to ask this question in the first place tells me you do not have the understanding of what it takes to do an engine swap. This means you will need to pay a professional to do the work for you. Count on at least $3,000 - $5000 for labor alone.

the major problem is the weight. The room is there as the 2500 has the same body as the 1500. The weight of that engine will require a 2500 suspension and the frame to handle the torque. Then the transmission for the diesel and the transfer case (4x4) and also the axles to handle the torque. sooo you are left with the body from your truck. Get a 2500 diesel and be farther ahead instead of trying this.

The Cummins engine is only installed in Dodge 250/350 pickups that are specifically built for that engine. You will drastically over load a 1500 with that type of engine.

I'm no mechanic, but I know it would be a better idea to but a truck that is stock diesel.

The front end components on the 1500 are not at all rated for the sheer weight of the Cummins power plant. Could be a very expensive endeavor.
