Is there a way to turn off my second hard drive when it's not being used in Windows 7?
-
I run two hard drives in my desktop. One is a SSD drive and the other is an old 250gb IDE drive. I was just wondering if there is a way for me to deny the drive power when it's not being used? As set up currently, it just sits there on and spinning the whole time the computer is on and maybe gets accessed 10% or less of the time. I have very little I use on that drive and mostly use it to back things up. Is there any way for me to deny it power, or use some kind of sleep function to keep the drive from constantly spinning? I'd like to prolong the life of the drive, but I really don't want to have to use an external USB case just so that I can manually shut it off after each use.

Answer:
Yes go to power options in control panel then whatever setting you have it on click "change plan settings", then click "change advanced power settings" then you will see HDD options
