How to fix an inner door handle?

Broke my car door handle...How do I fix it? its a Chrysler Sebring 2000. ?

  • After work, there was freezing rain, and my driver side door got frozen shut. I was pulling on it trying to get it to open. Well, it didn't open. So I got the passenger side open and unlocked the doors. I had to open the driver side from the inside. The handle doesn't open the driver side door now, from the outside (only opens from the inside). I pulled it out. It kind of pops out when you lift it. but you can push it back in. Does anyone know how I could fix this? Or how to take the door panel off? and what to look for to see if i can fix it myself? I have a Chrysler Sebring 2 door coupe, I have to open my passenger side door every time to get into my car. It is a hassle. I appreciate anyone who has some good advice & suggestions, if your going to make fun I don't really need your feedback....

  • Answer:

Purchase a can of silicone spray and treat the door gaskets. Use a paper towel, spray down a corner once folded up and apply the spray to the door gaskets all around. Do 2 coats to be sure. Your doors will never freeze to the body for the rest of the winter.

Best and simplest way if you ask me is to go to a do it yourself auto wreckers or wrecking yard and find another handle like yours , remove the door panel and the weather stripping , un-clip the linkages and unbolt the handle assembly then install it in your vehicle. While you've your door panel apart spray the entire locking system and linkages with anti-rust and lubricant spray. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you think it can snap back in best way to really find out is remove the door panel etc on your vehicle first and remove the door handle bracket and see if there is a way it reconnects but it sounds like to me that you broke it. There could be several different years of your vehicle that use the exact same handle assembly on them and maybe even the same colour too , plus at the wreckers they can tell you what parts cross reference. If you take the parts off yourself the handle maybe might cost you 10 or 20 bucks.
