How to Program Factory Built-In garage Door Opener?

  • I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it has the factory garage door opener on the visor. How do I program that to my garage door? Thanks!

  • Answer:

The built-in system in your '98 Jeep is made by a company called "HomeLink", a subsidiary of Johnson Controls Inc. The website, www.homelink.com, has a walk through tutorial that should do the trick. It's a matter of taking and existing hand-held remote control for your opener, pressing and holding its button, and pressing and holding the button you wish to use in the visor at the same time (with the remote positioned very close to the visor). The appropriate flashes on the LED above the row of three buttons will let you know when the HomeLink system is set up. Depending on you opener, you may then need to locate a "learn" button on the overhead garage door opener mechanism, and program the HomeLink system into the opener's memory.
