if i spend the $400 to replace the control unit in the dash, will it fix it or is it something else? All i get is heat full blast.

Answer:
Yep, like Dodge man said, it's got to be diagnosed. Besides, look at it this way, it could be a less expensive repair that's needed. If you spend $400 on a control, then you'll still have to spend whatever to fix it if that's not what's wrong. Hot air only could be a stuck actuator, bad control, low refrigerant, bad sensor, etc.

i own a repair shop ,and there's no way any one on here can answer that one correctly, you first need to get it diagnosed to see what all is wrong with it.if i was that good at knowing things i wouldn't be here answering questions, really though it could be anything wrong with it,air conditioning has to be done right or it wont last very long, good luck i hope this helps.

Sounds like you are about to get ripped off. hahaha It might be that you need freon in your vehicle. Did you know you can BUY an A/C book and fix it yourself. What it is you can not put freon FOR MONEY on someone else's vehicle. But you can work on yours. The money for the book, gauges, vacuum and freon will run near $400, depending on how good the gauges and vacuum pump you get. The better vacuum pumps are faster but then money wise what is an extra 20 minutes. Then next year if you need freon you can do it yourself. This is something I did. I did not want to pay the $500 to FIX my unit. I was able to diagnose the problem and recharge it. The only problem I had was one during the summer. The frigging frostbite. hahha If not, take it to some shops for an estimate. A place like Pep Boys charges $30-$50 to check your A/C out. Even if you get a NEW unit, if you do not have freon you will still get hot air. But sounds like you need freon.
