Can I put a turbo on my Ford Laser?

I have a 91 plymouth laser 2.0 non turbo and it grinds when u put it in first?

    I've got a 90 Eclipse that is the same basic type vehicle with same engine. It too had that problem. Was the slave cylinder on the transmission leaking a tad of fluid. That allowed a bit of air to get in and kept it from completely mashing the clutch in. Clutch on your car sounds okay as if was bad you should slip or not pull at all. You are apparently not having that problem, but are having trouble getting it to "disengage enough to shift. The other thing could be what others have suggested which is the oil level in the trans. Look under the car and pull back the rubber bellows on teh slave cylinder that actuates the clutch fork and I bet you find some brake fluid in it. If so you have found your trouble.

The most common reason for the problem you describe is the clutch. As you probably know, the clutch disconnects the transmission from the engine for smooth shifting. If that disconnection is not complete or nonexistent, the syncho rings will clash; even if the car is standing still. The "clutch" is composed of many parts from the pedal, the hydraulic actuator, to the flywheel and the clutch release bearing. Any of these could be the cause. Also I would check the trans lube level, as the other responder recommended. I think it is prudent to try the easy and cheap before moving into the complex and expensive.

most likely the clutch is going out. they are non -adjustable. get a new clutch.

Check the oil level in the gearbox. Mine was doing that and it was low on gear lube. Could be a gear sycronizer getting bad too. Maybe drop it into another gear, like second, before putting into first. Sometimes that can help.
