Whats the difference between a 70 chevelle malibu and a 70 chevelle malibu ss?

  • whats the difference between a 70 chevelle malibu and a 70 chevelle malibu ss? i dont want people that arent die hard fans of the car. i want little things and the big things that are differences. are the gages the same? i want mostly accessory differences, if you got a website to show/tell me the differences that would be nice.

    Here's a couple sites with info, Back in those days, many cars could be optioned out with just about any combination within the basic packages....not like today where options are clumped together. Makes things a little harder to figure out. The best thing to do is find the build sheet that came with the car with all the option codes..usually located under the seat cushions/springs, above the gas tank, inside door trim panels or above glove box...whichever part was the last to be installed in the car on the assembly line. Round gauge pods housing the fuel gauge and speedometer replaced the sweep design of non-SS Chevelles. A word of caution here though, any V8 Malibu coupe, convertible, or El Camino could still order RPO U14 Instrument Panel gauges and get the same round gauge pod dash but it would include a tachometer, (moved) fuel gauge, speedometer, amp and water temperature gauges. One of the easiest ways to tell a reall SS from a Malibu is to look for a third fuel line, the return line. Non-SS cars didn't have return lines, only the two, supply from the tank and pressure to the carb.
