bearing in mind that it was built for torque and 4wd ,not drag racing, that said i'd put a Hypertech Power Programmer on it,gives modest(25)hp increasebut fine tunes the rest ,getting the most out of what's there, try their website .com for details

In my experience, never use cheep aftermarket plug wires, cap and rotor, you may notice a difference right after you install them, but they just do not hold up. Years ago I started only using AC Delco ignition components on my vehicles. They last much longer, and no matter what type of aftermarket performance parts you bolt on, its just a waste of money without them. Another thing I like to do when doing a tune up is to crank up engine with air cleaner off, then take a aerosol can of carburetor cleaner and spray short aimed shots of it at vacuum line connections, around the area of the gasket between throttle body and intake manifold. If the engine idle changes abruptly when you spray, that a sure sign of a vacuum leak. GM small blocks around this year model used a substandard intake manifold gasket that tends to shrink up as it ages. The throttle body gaskets are known to crystallize from the exposure to fuel and extreme heat from EGR valve. When this happens, small pieces of it start breaking off and get eaten by the engine.

what size tires are you running? if your K5 has been lifted and/or is running larger tires you may need to change differential gears. stock was probably 373, but if you are running 33" tires then going to 410 gears will bring you back to stock engine rpm rangeand add a lot of performance. hope this helps
