1991 Corvette Jankel Tempest Value?

1991 corvette check engine lights comes on after 50 miles?

  • i have a 1991 corvette that after 50 miles or so the check engine lights comes on,it still runs fine and goes back off after it sits for awhile, any help is appreciated. thank you .

  • Answer:

Start with pulling the engine codes. As you have an OBD-1 computer you can blink them out. Looking at the connector under the steering wheel, short the top two pins on the right side with the key off. Turn on the key and watch the service engine light. It will blink each code three times starting with 12 or 1.....2.....1.....2 copy down the rest of the codes and proceed from there. It is generally recommended to start with the lower numbered codes.

It doesn't seem to be anything major since it shows up and goes away. could be many things: exhaust, sensors (such as maf, map sensor), intake leaks, etc. get a scanner and check for what code is popping up that should give you some direction on where to look..

Check all vacuum hoses and replace cracked and broken vacuum lines.Get a new gas cap because a leaking O-ring will cause a code to come up.
