When is Frank Ribery coming back?

Chevy cavalier, when pressing on brakes sounds like pads are worn but coming from the back?

  • 2001 cavalier. on most cars i dealt with, when pressing on the brakes(front wheel drive), the front pads usually work and back brakes are used for the emergency brake. i can see an all wheel drive work the back brakes also, but my cavalier isnt all wheel drive. im gonna assume it has shoes back there instead of pads. does my cavalier back brakes work like the front one does? ive changed front ones at least 2 times so far..the noise was the same when they were bad. now back ones? when pressing on brake?

  • Answer:

the back has a system know as drum brakes, where you have semi circle shoes (like the pads of disc brakes) that apply pressure outwards to slow and stop the car when you push the pedal. Cars use the rear drum brakes for all braking purposes, the front just does about 70% of the work wile the back sits there and does around 30%, they will get worn down though, wile it is slower than discs on the front it still happens. I would recommend taking them to a shop because doing drum brakes your self is a pain and requires specialty tools.
