What are some things to do in or around Monte Carlo?

Question about Swapping out the 3.1 Liter in my Monte Carlo for a 3.8 Supercharged from any W platform Car?

  • Im trying to find out how hard it would be to Swap out the 3.1 Liter in my 97 Monte Carlo for the 3.8 Supercharged from a W series car like the Gran Prix or Bonneville. I want this to be as factory looking a swap as possible and i also want it to work flawlessly. I want it to run as if i was driving the car it came out of. I know the transmissions are different does this mean also that the Hub spline for the CV joint is different. What about things such as speed sensors and such. i know the engine is basically the same but i would really like to know. Is the computer just plug and play. Since they both use T bone front engine mounts is the engine a direct bolt in. What about the Factory Cluster will it work with the new engine. And no i will not just buy a 98 or 99 Z34 and supercharge it i want to know about my Specific monte Carlo

  • Answer:

Sounds like a good swap. I recommend using the subframe from the 3.8L. Should bolt in. If you can get the whole front clip you'll need the computer, harness and all. That's why I suggest the subframe assembly with the engine, trans, axles and suspension.
