Do you think Chevy should offer the ZR1 with AWD?
-
The ZR1 is one of the fastest production cars in the world, but should it be AWD? AWD is superior in every way, but americans may not like their favorite sports car to be anything but RWD. How much better do you think the ZR1 would be with AWD?

Answer:
look at the 1/4 mile times of both cars.. why screw up perfection.. their is a reason nearly all pure race cars are rear wheel drive.. all wheel drive has major disadvantages.. most people only see straight line performance but thats not the case.. how about huge oversteer issues.. AWD is far from perfect.. if AWD was perfect dont you think all performance cars would have it.. and plus the corvette is living up the it's reputation.. because it has always been a rear wheel drive vehicle

Please explain how AWD is "superior in every way"? It's not. At a certain speed it becomes a bigger power robber...AWD is cool for launching and all of that but there's a reason some of the fastest supercars in the world aren't RWD. EDIT: A GT-R does NOT run with a ZR1...it's been proven time and time again that Nissan sent in a ringer for the test around The Ring. The basic GT-R's aren't nearly as fast the ZR1. If it's not broke don't fix it, there's no need to add AWD. It's like the people that whine about OHV motors..."oh but OHC motors make more power blah blah blah"...again..if it's not broke don't fix it. It's not a simple task to just add AWD to a car. A ZR1 doesn't need it. The sad thing is the GT-R has AWD AND a very sophisticated launch control system and STILL gets it's slow *** handed to it by a ZR1. Devin, read what I said again....Nissan sent in a ringer for the run at The Ring...you take a normal GT-R from a dealership it will NOT run those times...it's already been proven that a ringer was sent in...so those times are meaningless.

I know Z06s with factory run flats can run 1.7s in the 60'. I'd imagine with good tires (not sure about stock) the ZR1 could accomplish the same. I see no reason for AWD in the ZR1

AWD is awesome to have for the first second of a race. but after that its just dead weight. unless your talking about rally racing or circuit racing. the RWD is just better overall. take the WRX, street racers love that car because of AWD. since it can take on most cars when it comes to launching. but in a race longer than 10 seconds the RWD will win. when going in a straight line like the 1/4 mile. its just gonna be extra weight holding you back for most of the way.

Interesting, I'm not sure exactly how much better it would perform being AWD, but I bet it would be! Perhaps GM should make this an option for future years.....good thinking!
